About Maitland Property

Maitland’s greatest feature is that most of the major transport networks pass through the suburb. This adds significantly to the value of any property that a potential purchaser in the suburb should acquire. Commercial enterprises particularly should find that the excellent and comprehensive transport links – it is doubtful whether any suburb to the north of Cape Town is better served – makes the siting of commercial businesses in Maitland just plain common sense.

Supplies of stock, merchandise or parts can be swiftly and efficiently expedited from and to Maitland, and this factor alone more than compensates for the comparative lack of scenic attractions or other natural features. In any event access to the city center or to other suburbs is ridiculously quick and easy. The railway line runs through the middle of Maitland and this emphasizes and adds to the perception of Maitland as the city’s most vital transport hub. In fact historically, this perception carries more than a kernel of truth. This importance dates way back to 1845 when one of the very first roads connecting Cape Town to Stellenbosch was completed. This road was routed through Maitland and its completion effectively linked the Mother City to the rest of Africa. Up to that time the expansive sand dunes of the Cape Flats had severely limited the amount of traffic in and out of the city. This inevitably inhibited growth as access to the hinterland was severely restricted. Subsequently, the perceived importance of Maitland grew to such an extent that many roads, and the railway, found it expedient to route through the suburb into and out of Cape Town.

The major artery of the N1 forms Maitland’s northern boundary and this has simply further underlined its commercially desirable status for all kinds of property seekers. Maitland is situated to the north of Pinelands with Brooklyn to the south. To the east lies Salt River and due west is Kensington. For commerce and industry swift and efficient transport nodes are critical, and it is almost certain that this factor has been the driving force for investors investigating Maitland for suitable properties there.
