About Simons Town Property

Simons Town is a charming seaside town steeped in history and tradition. Those who are lucky enough to own property on the mountainside enjoy panoramic views of the coastline and Indian Ocean across the harbour and waterfront. There are plenty of quaint restaurants, delis, coffee shops and boutique stores along the main road and at the new Quayside Waterfront with its popular seaside restaurants.

Simon’s Town is home to Boulders beach, which is part of the Table Mountain National Park and one of Cape Town’s most beautiful beaches. It also happens to be the dwelling place of a colony of African penguins. Huge boulders create sheltered little covers and the calm, warm waters of Boulders make this a safe haven for small children who can frolic among the penguins. Simon’s Town has a rich history.

It was named after the Simon van der Stel, the Dutch governor of the Cape between 1677 and 1699, who surveyed the bay east of Cape Town in 1687 and earmarked it as a safe winter harbour. For more than two centuries it has been an important naval base and harbour – first for the Royal Navy and now the South African Navy. Visitors can discover more about South Africa’s third oldest town and its history at one of its four museums. Other historical points of interest include The Church of St Francis, the oldest Anglican church in South Africa, and Roman Rock Lighthouse, South Africa’s third oldest lighthouse and the only one built on a rock.

At the heart of the town lies the ‘Historic Mile’ which offers a variety of architecturally interesting buildings, good seafood restaurants, tiny lanes, antique shops and galleries. Simon's Town is also home to The False Bay Yacht Club, which has keelboat regattas most Wednesday evenings and weekends. When you see property for sale in Simons Town you know it affords you seaside living at its best.
